history

Altenwall office building

The eight-storey office building was built in 2009 for KG Grundstücksverwaltungsgesellschaft Schwachhausen according to plans by architects Jan Jakob Schulze and Martin Pampus. It stands at a significant urban location on the Bremen ramparts , where the Ostertor of the Bremen city wall once stood from 1238 . In the immediate vicinity are the Kunsthalle Bremen and opposite the castle-like, romantic former police house from 1908 by Carl Börnstein, today the Wall-Forum . The corner building is significantly higher than the other buildings on Altenwall and, together with the tower-like wall forum, emphasizes the entrance to the old town on Ostertorstrasse. The restrained stepping of the building above the fifth floor creates the transition to the houses on Altenwall. The light beige facade is another design element that conveys to the neighborhood.

Architects and buildings were awarded the BDA Bremen Prize in 2010 .

The jury for the BDA competition in Bremen wrote: “The jury evaluates this building as an extremely successful, even exemplary 'urban building block' for an inner-city situation. The standard case (commercial building with shops) is solved here in a natural, relaxed way ... The detailing of the facade and the entrance is elegant. It is to be expected that the house will still make an impression worthy of this place even after years. "

In the building there are shops on the ground floor, otherwise the offices of service companies.
