Jacobus "Koos" Johannes du Plessis (born May 10, 1945 in Rustenburg , † January 15, 1984 near Krugersdorp ), also known as Koos Doep , was a South African singer-songwriter and poet . Although most of his works received very good reviews, his greatest success was the interpretation of the song Kinders van die Wind (Children of the Wind), which was originally written by Laurika Rauch .

Life

Koos du Plessis was born the youngest of four children and grew up in the mining town of Springs . After school, he attended the University of Pretoria and the Witwatersrand University , where he the course Afrikaans - Nederlands completed. At the university he also met his future wife Mornay. The couple had three daughters, Irma, Karien and Karla. Koos later wrote a song about each of these four women in his life.

Koos worked as a journalist and editor for various publications appearing in Afrikaans ( Oggendblad , Die Vaderland , Die Nataller and Die Transvaler ).

In 2010 two albums were released in the Netherlands. The first was Ofschaaid Zunder Woorden , on which Wia Buze and Klaas Spekken sing Lieder du Plessis on Gronings . Karla du Plessis also makes an appearance and sings a duet. The second album The Land Van Blou Saffiere was a release from the Tussen Continents series. It contained a book with a biography, texts with footnotes and explanations, and a CD with 20 songs by Koos du Plessis.

In the early morning hours of January 15, 1984, he died in a car accident near Krugersdorp.
