The Kopfige centaury ( Centaurium capitatum , synonym : Erythraea capitata ... Willd ex Roem & Schult ) is the smallest home in Germany Art in the genus of Tausendgüldenkräuter . description

The annual plant is a maximum of 8 cm high, the base leaves form a small rosette. The entire stem-leaves are cross-opposite . The pink-colored, dense-headed inflorescence forms an umbel . The main flowering period is from July to August. The five-part and only a few millimeters large individual flowers of the sun-loving plant only open when the sun is shining.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 40.

Occurrence

The strictly protected head centaury is only found in Central and Northern Europe. In Germany it can be found almost exclusively and only inconsistently in calcareous dune grass in the coastal area of ​​the North Sea. It's very rare. It occurs in Germany in societies of the Koelerion albescentis or the Mesobromion.
