Gobiodon is a genus of fish from the family of gobies . The species of this genus live in the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific, hidden in knotty hard corals (Scleractinia) of the genus Acropora and the family Pocilloporidae , often associated with fur clumps and porcelain crabs . The bad swimmers live constantly between the branches and defend the corals against predators such as butterfly fish and filefish. To spawn, they gnaw off a small piece of coral tissue and glue their eggs to the bald spot. The skin of the coral gobies is scaly and covered with a poisonous slime that protects them from predators . They grow to be 2 to 6.5 centimeters. Coral gobies live on zooplankton , including those that the coral polyps have already caught for their own consumption.

species

The genus Paragobiodon is closely related , the head of which is covered with small spines and which also has the same way of life.
