Kostas Poulis

Konstantinos "Kostas" Poulis ( Greek Κωνσταντίνος "Κώστας" Πούλης , * 1928 ; † December 7, 1986 ) was a Greek football player .

Athletic career

Poulis played for AEK Athens in the national championship between the late 1940s and 1950s , with the team often not getting beyond the regional series. While the national championship was dominated by Olympiacos Piraeus and local rivals Panathinaikos from Athens , the midfielder won the Greek national cup twice with his club . In 1950 Aris Thessaloniki was beaten 4-0 in the final, six years later Olympiacos were the opponents in a 2-1 victory. The same final game there had also been in 1953, but at that time Olympiakos won the title with a 3-2 victory. In 1959 he qualified with the club for the newly introduced national league. He ended his career with Apollon Smyrnis in 1960/61 .

In February 1950 Poulis made his debut in a 2-0 international defeat against Egypt in the jersey of the Greek national team . In the following years he was a regular member of the national team. In the summer of 1952 he took part in the 1952 Summer Olympics , but the football tournament ended for him and the Greek selection with a 1: 2 opening defeat against Denmark immediately after the first game. In November 1953, he ran as part of qualifying for the 1954 World Cup finals for his ninth and last game for the national team. With a 1-0 win over Israel , the selection initially got its chances of participating in the tournament, with a 0-1 defeat in March of the following year in a direct comparison with Yugoslavia for group victory, the team without Poulis ultimately missed participation in the in tournament held in Switzerland.
