Kostyantyn Jakowytsch Kryschyzkyj (born July 17, jul. / 29. July  1858 greg. In Kiev , Kiev Governorate , Russian Empire , † March 4 jul. / 17th March  1911 greg. In St. Petersburg , Russian Empire) was a Ukrainian - Russian landscape painter .

Life

Kostjantyn Kryschyzkyj went to school in Kiev and then studied painting at the Kiev drawing school of Mykola Muraschko . In 1877 he went to study painting at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and graduated there in 1884 with the professor and landscape painter Michail Clodt von Jürgensburg with top grades. In a few years he achieved high honors with his pictures. In his numerous landscape paintings he captured the unique beauty and charm of his homeland. With the same enthusiasm he also painted landscapes of Russia, the Baltic States, Finland and Norway.

Kryschyzkyj taught painting at the Nicholas Orphan Drawing Institute in Saint Petersburg between 1884 and 1906. In 1887 he was one of the founders of the Society of Russian Watercolor Artists. In 1889 he became a painting academician and in 1900 he became a member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

When he was falsely accused of plagiarism by his critics, he committed suicide in Saint Petersburg. There he was buried in the Smolensk Cemetery. The bronze sculpture of his grave monument created by Marija Lvovna Dillon was melted down after the October Revolution .
