A herb scissors is a kitchen appliance for fast crushing softer herbs such. B. chives , parsley , dill or basil .

Commercially available herb scissors can be assigned to two designs, which generalize the principle of articulated scissors - two blades mounted crosswise on an axis , each of which ends in a handle ( eye ) at the other end - in different ways:

In the case of a form registered as a utility model by the company Silit , the “lower” handle ends in a pair of parallel blades with cutting edges ground on the inside, the “upper” however in a counterpart in between, along which the cutting edges slide. Due to the two simultaneous cuts, a piece is separated from the clippings according to the width of the intermediate piece.

In the case of herb scissors from other manufacturers, the scissor handles are connected to several pairs of blades that are coupled to one another, and the blades on the inside are sharpened on both sides . As a result, a corresponding number of pieces are separated from the cut material with just one cutting movement, the length of which corresponds to the blade thickness. Such herb scissors are usually supplied with a “cleaning comb” made of tough plastic, with which pieces of clippings remaining between the blades can be swept out without crushing them.
