The Agios Dimitrios steam power plant ( Greek Ατμοηλεκτρικού Σταθμού (ΑΗΣ) Άγιος Δημήτριος ) is a lignite power plant near the village of Agios Dimitrios about 15 km northeast of the city of Kozani in western Macedonia in northern Greece .

The power plant is the most powerful in Greece in terms of installed capacity. It consists of five blocks, each with an installed electrical output of around 300 MW , which were put into operation between 1987 and 1997:

The operator is the large Greek electricity supplier Dimosia Epichirisi Ilektrismou (ΔΕΗ).

The lignite that is burned comes from the open-cast mine near Ptolemaida , located about 10 km to the northwest , from where the fuel is transported directly to the power plant via conveyor belts . The nearby large-scale power plants Kardia ( ΑΗΣ Καρδία ), Ptolemaida ( ΑΗΣ Πτολεμαΐδα ), Amyntaio ( ΑΗΣ Αμύνταιο ) and Florina ( ΑΗΣ Φλώρινα ) are supplied from the same open-cast mine or area .

The plant's three chimneys are 174 meters high.
