The Arkhangelsk power plant ( Russian Архангельская ТЭЦ ) is a fossil fuel power plant in the north of the Russian city of Arkhangelsk . It is located on the bank of the Kuznetschikha ( Кузнечиха ), a tributary of the Northern Dvina . The plant, which works with combined heat and power , is the largest producer of electricity and district heating in Arkhangelsk and the largest thermal power station in Arkhangelsk Oblast . The owner and operator is the Territorial generating company No. 2 ( Территориальная генерирующая компания № 2 , transcription Territorijalnaja generirujuschtschaja kompanija No. 2 ), abbreviated TGK-2 , in addition to the power plant Arkhangelsk, the two cogeneration plants in Severodvinsk operates.

The power plant has an installed capacity of 450 MW.

investment

At the end of September 1970, the first block of the thermal power station with an output of 60 MW was put into operation.

From May to July 2005 boiler no. 5 was repaired and refurbished, which increased efficiency and saved fuel.

Conversion to natural gas

In 2006, the conversion of the power plant from heating oil to natural gas was discussed for the first time, which should not only reduce the prices for electricity and heat, but also improve the environmental situation in the city.

By 2011, the construction of a pipeline to Arkhangelsk, which supplies the plant with natural gas, was completed. In 2010 and 2011, four of the six boilers in the Arkhangelsk power plant and three boilers in the Severodvinsk power plant were converted from crude oil to natural gas as fuel, which reduced the annual heating oil consumption of the two power plants by 800,000 tons. After delays in work on the Talagi gas distribution station north of Arkhangelsk, on April 6, 2011, all four converted boilers were working with gas for the first time. The other two boilers are currently also being converted to natural gas.
