The Bahía de Bizkaia power plant is a combined cycle gas and steam power plant in the port of Bilbao (municipality of Ciérvana ), province of Bizkaia , Spain . The installed capacity of the power plant is 800 MW . The average annual generation is given as 3.6 billion kWh ; the generation in 2008 was 4.632 billion kWh. The power plant went into operation in 2003; it serves to cover the base and medium loads .

Owner and operator

The power plant is owned by Bahia de Bizkaia Electricidad (BBE) and is also operated by BBE. BBE is a joint venture between BP (75%) and EVE (25%). BBE was originally a joint venture between BP, EVE, Repsol and Iberdrola , in which each of the companies involved had a 25% stake. Repsol sold its stake in BP in 2013 for around € 135 million, and Iberdrola to BP the following year for € 111 million.

Unit 1 consists of two gas turbines and a downstream steam turbine . A waste heat steam generator is connected to each of the two gas turbines ; the waste heat steam generator then supplies the steam turbine. In the switchgear , the generator voltage is increased from 15.75 kV to 400 kV using power transformers.
