The Elektrogorsk power plant in Russian Электрогорская ГРЭС ( Elektrogorskaja GRES ) or ГРЭС-3 ( GRES-3 ), formerly Электропередача ( Elektroperedatscha ) is located in Elektrogorsk in Moscow Oblast , Russia . It was the world's first power plant to burn peat . Today, however, natural gas is no longer used, but rather peat .

general description

The power plant produces electricity and district heating for parts of the greater Moscow area . There are three GT-100 gas turbines in the power plant. Heating oil is used as reserve fuel. There are plans to expand the power plant and improve its efficiency. The feed water preheater will deliver a thermal output of 105 MW th . The Elektrogorsk power plant also includes the CHP heating power plants in the nearby towns of Orechowo-Sujewo (built in 1927, originally also using peat as fuel) and Elektrostal .

history

The power plant went into operation on April 12, 1914. It was the middle of a bog rich territory between Moscow and the Meshchera Lowlands built -Niederung where large peat deposits exist, and was the first torfbefeuerte thermal power plant in Russia. The settlement built at the same time was named after the Elektroperedatscha power plant . The power plant was designed by the well-known engineer Robert Klasson (1868–1926) , among others . It was not until 1946 that the settlement received city status and was renamed Elektrogorsk. The Elektrogorsk power station has not been burning peat since the mid-1980s; instead, natural gas and heating oil are used as reserve fuel. In 2007, the power plant's gas turbine sector was renewed using gas and steam technologies.

The power plant is also mentioned in the city coat of arms of Elektrogorsk : The bricks at the bottom of the coat of arms are peat tiles, which show that the world's first peat-fired power plant was located in Elektrogorsk. The lightning bolt represents power generation and the horizontal lines are power cables. The coat of arms of the Moscow region is shown at the top left.
