The power plant Gorou Banda ( French : Centrale thermique de Gorou Banda ) is a diesel - thermal power plant in the city of Niamey in Niger .

Plant and technical data

The power plant is located southwest of the village of Gorou Banda in the Niamey V arrondissement . It covers an area of ​​80 hectares . For grounds include, besides the actual power plant a 11 / 132- kV - substation , a 132/66/20 kV substation and a fuel storage, further office, personnel and residential buildings. The Gorou Banda power plant has an output of 100 MW .

The electricity is fed into the public grid and is used to supply the cities of Niamey, Dosso and Tillabéri . This is done via four high-voltage lines of 20 kV and four high-voltage lines of 66 and 132 kV.

Owner and history

The Gorou Banda power station is owned by the state-owned electricity supplier Société nigérienne d'électricité (NIGELEC). The power plant was opened on April 2, 2017 by President Mahamadou Issoufou . The cost of construction was 75 billion CFA francs .
