The Ingolstadt power plant of Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH is located near the municipality of Großmehring in the Eichstätt district and is operated as a medium and peak load power plant. The usual services for network stabilization such as primary control with condensate accumulation and secondary control are also provided .

The power plant is operated with heavy heating oil , which is produced in the neighboring refineries of Bayernoil and Gunvor .

Of the four units, Unit 3 and Unit 4 are currently operated with a gross capacity of 420 MW each , the other two units with a capacity of 150 MW each (Units 1 and 2) were shut down in 1993 . In December 2013, E.ON (now Uniper) announced that it would also shut down the two remaining units. The supply contract with Bayernoil could not be extended. For this purpose, an application was submitted to the Federal Network Agency , which has to approve the shutdown in advance for reasons of security of supply. In April 2014, the Federal Network Agency announced that it had declared blocks 3 and 4 to be systemically relevant. They must not be shut down for the time being. On April 1, 2015, the blocks were then transferred to the grid reserve. They are used exclusively to maintain network stability and are used by Tennet.

To improve environmental protection , the blocks were retrofitted in 1992 and 1994 with a DeNOx system based on the SCR process, electrostatic precipitators and flue gas desulphurisation .

The chimneys of the Ingolstadt power plant are 200 meters and 180 meters high.

The grid connection takes place at the 220 kV high voltage level in the power grid of the transmission system operator Tennet TSO . 220 kV lines run to the Raitersaich and Sittling substations .

Overview of electricity production

Overview of the electricity production of the Ingolstadt 3 and Ingolstadt 4 power plant blocks in TWh .

Block \ year 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019
Ingolstadt 3 0.12 0.23 0.02 0.01 <0.01 0.01
Ingolstadt 4 0.17 0.20 0.01 0.02 <0.01 <0.01

The electricity production of 0.01 TWh corresponds to a full load production (386 MW net) of around 26 hours. As a result, both power plant blocks have not been used significantly for electricity production in recent years.
