The Langenegg power plant is a run-of-river power plant operated by illwerke vkw and is located in the municipality of Langenegg in the Bregenzerwald on the right bank of the Bregenzer Ache . The power plant, which went into operation in 1979, currently has an installed capacity of 74  MW and produces more than 211  GWh of electrical energy annually .

First of all, water from the Subersach and the Wüstebach flowing towards it is collected as part of the water supply for the power plant and fed to the Bolgenach via the 3.8 kilometer long Hittisberg tunnel. The Bolgenach itself is finally dammed in a narrow gorge to form the Bolgenach storage facility, which is designed as a weekly storage facility with a useful capacity of 6.5 million cubic meters of water.

In principle, the power plant uses the downhill section to the Bolgenach reservoir to generate energy, the stored water of which is fed to the powerhouse via the 5.9 kilometer-long Rotenberg tunnel. Two sets of machines, each with a Francis turbine and a generator, are used in the power plant itself . The electrical energy is transported from the power station directly to the nearby Vorderwald substation. The power plant is operated by remote monitoring from the main control center in Bregenz .

The Langenegg power plant, together with the nearby Alberschwende power plant, returns its water to the Bregenzer Ache in a controlled manner via the Bozenau side storage facility, which is located below parallel to the Bregenzer Ache, thus avoiding surge formation.
