The Plana del Vent power plant is a gas and steam combined cycle power plant in the municipality of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant , Tarragona province , Spain . It is located around 500 m from the coast on the A-7 motorway . The Vandellòs nuclear power plant is located approx. 500 m southwest of the power plant.

The installed capacity of the power plant is 800 (or 846) MW . The average annual production is 662 million kWh . The power plant went into operation in 2007; it serves to cover the base and medium loads . The cost of building the power plant is given as € 360 million.

Owner and operator

The power plant was built for the Spanish energy company Naturgy and was originally operated by Naturgy. The Swiss energy company Alpiq took over Unit 2 of the power plant for around € 200 million in 2011 and also operates it; In addition, Alpiq received the right to use Block 1 for two years and a right of first refusal for this block. In 2019, the right of use and the operation of Block 1 were returned to Naturgy because Alpiq did not exercise its right of first refusal.
