The Stornorrfors power plant is a run-of-river power plant in the province of Västerbotten County , Sweden , which dams the Ume älv . The city of Umeå is about 15 km southeast of the power plant.
The power plant went into operation in 1958. It is majority owned by Vattenfall (75%; Umeå municipality 25%) and is also operated by Vattenfall.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure consists of a concrete gravity dam , which is about four kilometers from the power plant. A two-kilometer canal leads from the reservoir to the power plant.

The Stornorrfors power plant has four (or five) Francis turbines and an installed capacity of 599.4 MW . The average annual production is 2.256 billion kWh . The fall height is 75 m. The maximum flow rate is 975 m³ / s.
The first three turbines, each with an output of 131 MW, were commissioned in 1958. They were supplied by Nohab . The fourth turbine with an output of 187 MW went into operation in 1982. It was supplied by Kvaerner .
