Linz district
The Linz district was a newly formed administrative unit in the Koblenz administrative district in 1816 under the Prussian government . The area of the then district lies in what is now northern Rhineland-Palatinate . The Linz district was dissolved as early as 1822 and the associated three mayor's offices and 22 communities were assigned to the Neuwied district . It was named after the city of Linz am Rhein , which had also been the seat of the Electoral Cologne Office of Linz since around 1250 .
The district administrator appointed by the Prussian government, Philipp Freiherr von Hilgers , had his official seat in Erpel .
The Linz district was united with the Neuwied district on May 1, 1822 by the “Cabinet Order” of March 28, 1822.
