The war memorial for 1870/71, 1914-18, 1939-1945 in Bad Brückenau , a spa town in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen is one of the architectural monuments of Bad Brückenau and is in the Bavarian monument list under the number D-6-72-113-33 registered.

history

The war memorial was erected in 1911 by the Bad Kissingen sculptor Valentin Weidner from sandstone and cast stone and initially erected on the market square of Bad Brückenau. On a pillar pedestal , it shows a representation of the dragon slayer St. George . The memorial was donated by the Bad Brückenau warriors and soldiers association. Weidner's fee for the monument was 1,000 marks .

The memorial originally served in memory of those who fell in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 . After 1945, the memorial was supplemented with inscriptions on the pedestals and two flanking name plaques for those who died in the First and Second World Wars .

The original conception of the monument included a lion sculpture that was placed in front of the monument. The lion sculpture is equipped with a Bavarian coat of arms and a laurel branch. However, the lion sculpture was removed and placed in the garden of the former district office. There it sank so deep into the soil of the garden there that Weidner's signature on the lion sculpture could no longer be read. At the suggestion of district home keeper Werner Eberth , the lion sculpture was put back on the market square after a renovation.

As part of the renovation of the old town in Bad Brückenau, the monument was removed from its original location on the market square. At the suggestion of district home keeper Leonhard Rungel, it was re-erected at its current location in front of the old town hall together with the lion sculpture.
