The war memorial

The war memorial Hochkirchen stands at the confluence of Weidbergstraße in the Dorweilerstraße in Nörvenicher district Hochkirchen in Düren .

The war memorial was built in September 1921 for the fallen and missing of the First World War . It is made of lava basalt and shows the figure of an angel with a sword and cross, who embodies the messenger of peace.

The names with the date of death of the ten dead were written on the solid base and the names of the three missing on the sides. The war memorial was redesigned around 1960. On the wall behind the memorial two large plaques with the names of the fallen and missing from both world wars were attached. In the Second World War there were a total of 20 fallen and missing persons.

In 1939 Hochkirchen had a population of 298 people. The paid toll was immense.
