history

Information board

At the municipal council meeting on November 21, 1912 it was decided that the parish between the Ladeburger and Möckernschen Chaussee should be leased for the erection of a memorial. A lease agreement was signed with the parish council for 99 years at a price of 20 marks per east . In the same year the construction of the monument began.

The top stone should have a weight of 250 centners . It took 27 horses to transport it from Lochower Heide to the next street. There were still 15 horses left for road transport. A copper sleeve was embedded in the foundation of the monument. It should contain records of the acquisition of the property, annual books and annual reports , as well as newspapers. The construction costs amounted to 3870 marks, of which the war club paid 670 marks. The remaining 3200 marks came from donations in the surrounding communities and from various regiments .

On April 6, 1913, 100 years and 1 day after the battle, the monument was inaugurated. The eagle and the inscription were only gilded in 1931 for 50 Reichsmarks . In 1973 the gilding was renewed. A repair of the monument and the redesign of the surrounding area was carried out in 1974 by the local volunteer fire brigade and the pension brigade. The monument was repaired again in 2011 for the sum of 37,230 euros and the surrounding area was redesigned. Among other things, an information point was set up on the opposite side of the street, seating was created and the monument was re-grouted. As part of the village development, a donation of 22,126 euros was received from the Office for Agriculture, Land Reform and Forests Altmark. The remaining 15,104 euros were paid by the city of Gommern .

In 1975 the monument was included in the district monuments list of the district of Kreis Burg .
