Kristina Roy
Kristina Roy (actually Kristína Royová ; born August 18, 1860 in Stará Turá , † December 27, 1936 in Stará Turá) was a Slovak writer .
Life
Kristina Roy was born in Stará Turá in western Slovakia (German Altturn, Hungarian Ótura), which was part of Hungary at the time , as the daughter of a Protestant pastor. At the age of 28, she and her sister Marie visited a preacher in Bohemia and there met people of deep faith. Faith in Jesus Christ took hold of her more than before in the Christian tradition she had already experienced, which existed more in external forms. From then on, she saw her task in using her literary talent to convey Christian beliefs to people in narrative form.
In total, Kristina Roy wrote 72 books and brochures. Of these, 43 were translated into a total of 24 languages. The story Without God in the world , which was translated into 21 languages and even printed in Chinese in Shanghai in 1929 , enjoyed an unusually great success . There are few Christian narratives that have had such widespread worldwide success. Roy's style is simple and easy to understand, the Christian content is biblically based.
Roy was not only active as a writer, she devoted all her strength to the awakening movement that was breaking out . The misery of alcoholics and their families was particularly close to her heart. Through their initiative, a Blue Cross Association was founded in Stará Turá in 1897 (this work was banned after the Second World War in what was then a communist environment). In 1912, Roy's work in Stará Turá resulted in a hospital and a deaconess house .
