The crystal head is a 3160 m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Schobergruppe on the border between East Tyrol and Carinthia . The Kristallkopf was first climbed and crossed by Lothar Patéra on August 2, 1895 .
location
The Kristallkopf is located in the northern center of the Schober Group on the municipal border between Kals am Großglockner (East Tyrol) and Heiligenblut am Großglockner (Carinthia). Its walls drop steeply into the Tramerkar on the northeast side, while the ridges on the southwest side break off onto the high mountain steps of the Lesachalm. Neighboring peaks are the Rote Knopf ( 3281 m above sea level ) in the south and the Ruiskopf ( 2309 m above sea level ) in the north. The Kristallkopf is separated from the Red Button by the Hohe Scharte ( 3,084 m above sea level ), in the north the Kristallscharte ( 3,084 m above sea level ) marks the transition to the Ruiskopf. To the southeast of the Kristallkopf, between the northeast ridge of the Rote Knopf and its east ridge, there is an unnamed glacier oriented to the northeast; the glaciers on the southwest flanks of the Kristallkopf have almost melted. To the west of the Kristallkopf lies the Ruisbach valley , to the east is the origin of the Gössnitzbach and the Elberfelder Hütte .
Promotion opportunities
The normal route to the Kristallkopf leads from the Lesachalmhütte or the Elberfelder Hütte into the Kristallscharte. From here you climb the Kristallkopf over a rubble-laden ridge, with the summit ridge having easy climbing spots around 200 meters before the highest point ( I ). The alternative ascent over the southeast ridge is from the Hohe Scharte and is more difficult ( II ). It is also possible to cross the Kristallkopf and Rotes Knopf ( II-III ) as well as to climb from the Tramerkar via the northeast face ( III + ).
