Kristin Linklater

Kristin Linklater (born April 22, 1936 in Orkney ; † June 5, 2020 ) was a Scottish voice trainer , actress and director .

Life

Linklater was trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art . In 1978 she co-founded Shakespeare & Company . Linklater was Professor of Theater and Director of Acting Training at Emerson College in Boston until 1997 . Since 1997 she has been Professor of Theater at Columbia University School of the Arts Graduate Theater Program, NYC

Linklater was the author of Freeing the Natural Voice , which was translated into German by Thea M. Mertz in 1997: Developing the Personal Voice . Since the 1990s, Linklater voice training has also been increasingly taught in Europe.

She was the daughter of the writer Eric Linklater and mother of the actor Hamish Linklater .
