Kristina Barta

Kristina Barta (* 23. January 1987 in Prague as Kristýna Bártová ) is a Czech jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Barta attended a musical high school in Prague, where she learned oboe, piano, flute and drums and took part in numerous competitions. Between 2000 and 2002 she already performed as a student in jazz, for example with her sister Martina Barta , and recorded her first albums. From 2002 she played in the folk ensemble Spalicek and in the field of classical music. After graduating from higher education in 2006, she studied classical piano and composition at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory with Jiří Růžička and Milan Svoboda from 2007 to 2012 and then jazz piano at the Academy of Performing Arts with Karel Růžička . During her studies she played in the orchestra of Vaclav Hybs, with whom she accompanied Lucie Bílá , Karel Gott and Vaclav Neckar .

In 2010 Barta founded her own fusion band Kikina b with saxophonists Zbyněk Polívka and Honza Fečo, guitarist Tomáš Fuchs, bassist Matěj Havlíček and drummer Martin Linhart, who mainly interpreted her compositions. In 2012 the band released their debut EP Dirty Sanchez . In the same year the band won the jazz fruit competition.

With her Kristina Barta Trio , which also includes bassist Jan Fečo and drummer Marek Urbánek, she appeared in clubs and jazz festivals from 2015. In the same year she won the JazzPrix at the Bohemia Jazz Fest . David Friedman , trumpeter Miroslav Hloucal, saxophonist Karel Růžička Jr. and guitarist Kryštof Tomeček were also involved as guest musicians on their debut album Ema29 ( Alessa 2017) with the trio . Most of the songs on the album were written by Kristina Barta. In addition to "Find Peace of Mind", with which Barta won the competition for the best Czech jazz composition of the Czech association for authors' rights Ochrannému svazu autorskému in 2016 , also "New Horizon", with which the band won the final of the Euroradio Jazz Competition in Amsterdam 2016 occurred. With the addition of saxophone and guitar, she also appears with her trio as Event Horizon .
