Krizz Kaliko (born March 7, 1974 in Kansas City , Missouri ; real life Samuel William Christopher Watson ) is an American rapper and singer . He is under contract with the independent label Strange Music .

Career

Watson was born in Kansas City. At the age of two he contracted vitiligo, a skin disease . In 1989 his father died of cancer, and later his sister was seriously injured in a car accident. As a result, he took over the role of breadwinner for the family from the age of 16. In addition to depression, he was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder . After a relationship ended, Watson said he was about to make a decision to kill himself .

After singing in the church choir as a child, Watson began recording hip hop music at the age of 25 . Through the contact with the producer Icy Rock he was able to record his songs and met rapper Tech N9ne through him . Krizz Kaliko then began working with Tech N9ne more often. Eventually he got an artist contract with Tech N9ne's label Strange Music . In addition to his own recordings, Kaliko has since acted as a back-up rapper on Tech N9ne's live performances.

In 2005, Watson married his ex-girlfriend, whose separation made him close to suicide a few years earlier. Krizz Kaliko's first album was released in May 2008 under the title Vitiligo via Strange Music . Here he treats his illnesses, among other things. A year later he released his second album Genius .

reception

The e-zine Laut.de stated that Kaliko's life provided “ more than enough bizarre material for a long artistic career. “In the case of the rapper,“ style and skills ”are combined with the ability“ to put his stories [...] and his story [...] into captivating words. "
