The Croatian draft horse ( Croatian Hrvatski hladnokrvnjak ) is an autochthonous Croatian horse breed . This cold blood horse breed comes from the flatlands of northwest and central Croatia .
history
These pure-blooded horse breed originated in the 19th century by many years of crossbreeding of local mares and imported stallions of the Ardennes - Percheron - and Brabant - breeding lines . Later, some stallions Hungarian became increasingly cold blood - horse breeds crossed.
At the beginning of the 20th century the breed expanded to some other areas of Croatia ( Posavina , Slavonia , etc.). Today the Croatian draft horse is numerically the largest (both autochthonous and general) horse breed in Croatia, with a total of 5,907 stallions , mares and foals (the information refers to the year 2012). The breeding center is located in the Moslavina microregion .
features
A typical Croatian draft horse is strong, muscular, robust and heavy, with a height at the withers between 150 and 160 cm. It has a medium-sized head with small ears, a medium-length curved neck, broad chest, long back, and massive, well-formed legs with wide hooves . When it comes to coat colors, brown predominates , followed by black , fox , gray and Isabell.
It has a calm temperament , it is willing to work, persevering and has less demands. In the past it was mainly used for heavy pulling work as well as in agriculture and forestry , but today it is often bred for meat production alone .
