The goiter ( Coregonus alpinus ), also known as goiter or goiter , is a freshwater fish from the genus Coregonus . It is endemic to Lake Thun in Switzerland .
features
The goiter reaches a standard length of approximately 250 mm. The length of the pectoral fins is 17 to 23 percent of the standard length for specimens over 200 mm standard length. The eye diameter is 20 to 24 percent of the length of the head. There are 13 to 28 gill spines . The fins are lined with black.
Habitat and way of life
His way of life is lacustrine . He lives in the deep water area of Lake Thun. The spawning season is from August to December. The eggs are mainly laid near deltas at a depth of 40 to 150 m. Its diet consists of invertebrates, especially midges .
Systematics and status
The goiter was described in 1885 as the subspecies Coregonus schinzii alpinus . In 1997 it was raised to species status by Maurice Kottelat . The IUCN classifies it as “not at risk” ( least concern ).
