Klepp in Rogaland

The Krosshaug (often referred to as coherent site Tinghaug - Krosshaug - Dysjane called) lies at 102 meters high Tinghaug south of Klepp at Stavanger in Fylke Rogaland in Norway . The Krosshaug ( German  Cross Hill ) takes its name from a stone cross that was destroyed during a Sankthans celebration in 1855 and restored in 1937.

The Krosshaug is a badly torn Röse with an open stone box from the Iron Age (about 450 n. Chr.) The findings show that there the "Kvinne fra Krosshaug" an affluent (gold and silver jewelry) woman was buried.

The bottomless stone box is built directly on the mountain, not uncommon in western Norway and in Trøndelag . The archaeologist Jenny-Rita Næss (born 1936) calls it frame construction because it has no floor. The ground was smoothed with gravel, pebble or stones. Three sides of the box are made of dry masonry . A large boulder forms the other narrow side. The northeast-southwest oriented trapezoidal box is 4.65 m long, 1.05 m on the northeast side and 0.80 m wide on the southwest side. The depth is 0.9 m. The dead woman was wrapped in a bear skin in an oak coffin.

The hill has been devastated over the centuries. A defensive post was built on the hill during World War II. This has stopped but you can still see the trenches.

In 1897 16 Guldgubber ( Norwegian Gullgubbe ) from the late 8th century, the only ones in Rogaland , were found on the west side of the Tinghaug . A total of 100 such gold sheets with the oldest Toreutic in the north were found in the northern region. The hammered pieces are about 1.0 × 1.0 cm in size and show two figures, presumably the Nordic gods Freyr ( Norwegian Frøy ) and Gerd , and have something to do with fertility cult.

Dysjane is north of the Krosshaug and is a Tunanlegg . The remains of 16 houses of the oval Tun lie between eight burial mounds . The area was used between the turn of the times and AD 400.
