Krupp belt
The Krupp belt is an urban development project that is currently being implemented in Essen . The 230 hectare area is located in the west quarter between the city center and the Altendorf district to the west . The area is the largely fallow site of the former Krupp cast steel factory between 1945 and 2007 , which was partly destroyed in World War II and the remains of which were later dismantled and not rebuilt. The headquarters of ThyssenKrupp AG (Krupp and Thyssen merged in 1999) officially opened on June 17, 2010 as the first relocation.
history
The Krupp cast steel factory , founded in 1811 by Friedrich Krupp , was located in the area of the Krupp belt . It formed the nucleus of Friedrich Krupp AG , which rose to become a heavy industry company and which has now merged into ThyssenKrupp as Germany's largest steel and armaments company. The main source of income was the armaments industry, so the city of Essen was nicknamed the armory of the German Empire at the time of National Socialism . After severe destruction in the Second World War , the remains of the factory were dismantled and taken abroad as a reparation payment . Since then, large parts of the former factory area had been fallow. It was not until 2010 that the ThyssenKrupp headquarters moved here as part of the Krupp Belt project.
In mid-May 2016 ThyssenKrupp sold around 70 hectares of non-operational space in the Krupp belt to an investor based in Essen.
ThyssenKrupp headquarters
In 2010 , the corporate headquarters of ThyssenKrupp AG moved from Düsseldorf to the ThyssenKrupp headquarters . The quarter forms the core of the urban development project Krupp-Gürtel and stands exactly on the ground on which Krupp has its roots with the cast steel factory in Essen and the Krupp parent company is also located. The costs for the first construction phase of the headquarters were estimated at over 300 million euros.
Berthold-Beitz-Boulevard
The Berthold-Beitz- Boulevard is the name of the three-kilometer-long main road that opens up the Krupp belt and runs through it in a north-south direction. It can be seen as an extension of the inner city ring.
Krupp Park
The Krupp Park, which is to be finally completed in 2020, is located in a north-south expansion parallel to the west of the Berthold-Beitz-Boulevard, whereby the northern part with a small lake was first opened in August 2009. There is a sports facility in the southern part. Both Park parts are assembled about 23 hectares and represent the fourth largest urban area for recovery after Gruga , the Borbecker lock and the hill park .
QuartierWest
To the west of Krupp Park, the Real market was demolished at the end of 2013 / beginning of 2014 . It opened on October 24, 2013 in the newly built Kronenberg Center south of Altendorfer Straße.
In the area of the southern parking lot of the former Real-Markt at the corner of Altendorfer Strasse and Dickmannstrasse, a three-story service and retail center with the name QuartierWest has been built in June 2016 north parallel to Altendorfer Strasse for around 17 million euros. On the 20,000 square meter site, the approximately 8,000 square meter U-shaped building offers space for a grocery store, a discounter, a furniture store, a household goods store and a hotel. A good 12,100 square meters of business space are rented for this. There is also an underground car park with 61 parking spaces and an outside parking area for 200 cars. The discounter and household goods retailer opened at the end of November 2017, the grocery store on March 6, 2018.
FOOD 51.
ESSEN 51. is a city quarter currently under construction for living, working and living. The designation ESSEN 51 derives from the fact that the area is almost the size of a new district and Essen currently consists of 50 districts.
In May 2016, ThyssenKrupp sold around 100 hectares of factory premises, including the 52 hectares on which ESSEN 51st will be built, to a real estate company in Essen, which is investing around one billion euros here. The area lies in the border area between the districts of Nordviertel and Bochold, mainly on the site of the former Krupp locomotive and wagon construction factory . In this area, around 1,500 apartments, 30 percent publicly funded and around 25 percent property, as well as small businesses, restaurants, schools and green spaces are being built and redesigned. A park will be created in the center, the watercourse of which will be connected to the Niederfeldsee in neighboring Altendorf .
On March 6, 2018, the groundbreaking ceremony took place in the northern Krupp belt in the presence of Mayor Thomas Kufen . An architectural competition will be held until the end of 2018. The area should be developed by 2020. Since the Swedish furniture store IKEA will also be located south of Bottroper Strasse, the six-lane expansion between Berthold-Beitz-Boulevard and Friedrich-Lange-Strasse began in summer 2018.
In 2020 a development plan for the 31 hectare area west of the Berthold-Beitz-Boulevard between the Pferdebahnstraße, the Haus-Berge-Straße and the Bottroper Straße will be drawn up with public participation. An urban development competition was held in 2019 for the sub-area south of Zollstrasse.
