Krzysztof Gawedzki

Krzysztof Gawedzki (* 1947 ) is a Polish mathematical physicist.

Gawedzki, Erlangen 1974

Gawedzki received his doctorate in Warsaw in 1976 ( Fourier like kernels in geometric quantization ). In the 1980s he did research for the CNRS at IHES near Paris. He is a professor at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon .

He dealt with quantum field theory , where he collaborated a lot with Antti Kupiainen in the 1980s on the application of the renormalization group method in the rigorous mathematical treatment of various model systems of quantum field theory, and in particular conformal field theory , which serve as two-dimensional study models of non-perturbation-theoretical aspects of QFT (with applications in the string theory , and statistical mechanics). Here he studied the geometry of WZW models (also called WZNW models, Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten models), prototypes for rational conformal field theories.

In 1986 he identified calf Ramon fields (B fields), which generalize electromagnetic background fields in string theory , as 3 co-cycles in Deligne cohomology.

In the 2000s he also turned to the study of turbulence , partly in collaboration with Kupiainen, with whom he demonstrated anomalous scaling behavior of scalar advection in random vector field models of homogeneous turbulence in 1995

In 2002/2003 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study . In 1986 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Berkeley ( Renormalization: from Magic to Mathematics ).
