Planning region Kufstein and the surrounding area

The city of Kufstein and its surrounding communities form the planning association  27 Kufstein and the surrounding area of Tyrol . The association is part of the LEADER region Kufstein Umgebung - Untere Schranne - Kaiserwinkl .

geography

Kufstein in the direction of the Kaiser Mountains

The planning association includes the lowest section of the Tyrolean Inn Valley with Kufstein and the municipality of Langkampfen, the high valley of Thiersee to the west, and a section of the low mountain range , the terrace of Schwoich , as well as the parts of the Wilder Kaiser belonging to Kufstein .

Communities

Economy and development

The space is strongly oriented towards the adjacent Bavarian part of the Inn Valley. Kufstein, the capital of the district and the second largest city in Tyrol , has a dominant central function for the surrounding area, especially in administration, education and health and in trade and supply. The valley floor around Kufstein and Langkampfen has a strong industrial and commercial character, with production sites from companies such as Sandoz , Viking or Pirlo . Conversely, bathing lakes such as the Thiersee or the Kaisertal and the Kaisergebirge nature reserve (which takes up 12% of the total area of the planning area) form an important recreational area not only for the city, but also for nearby Bavaria. Tourism only plays a role in Thiersee and Kufstein. The Brenner traffic axis with the Inntal motorway  (A 12) and the Lower Inn Valley railway is particularly important for the region .

Despite its central location on the traffic axis, the area is not one of the primary development regions in Tyrol, the population grew from 17,000 to 26,000 in 1961 to 2011, which is exactly the average for the whole of Tyrol (index 153 for these 50 years), and even slightly below that of the district (168). With almost 19,000 inhabitants (2015), Kufstein comprises 34 of the association's total population.
