List of cultural memorial sites in the New Lands
So-called cultural places of memory are museums and institutions included in the Federal Government 's Blue Book that are dedicated to important personalities and places of remembrance in the New Länder . The selection of cultural sites takes place on the initiative of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media in coordination with the Ministers of Culture of the East German states. The facilities are owned by various bodies. The federal government is partly involved in the financing. The first selection of the cultural sites was made on the initiative of the then Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media Michael Naumann . The first edition of the Blue Book was presented to the public on September 26, 2001. Further editions, slightly different in selection and ranking, followed in 2002/03 and 2006.
