Palace of Culture of the Nationalities
The Palace of Culture of the Nationalities (Chin. Mínzú Wénhuàgōng民族文化 宫) in Beijing was built in 1959 as one of the “ Ten Great Buildings ” (“十大 建筑”; Pinyin: Shí Dà Jiànzhù ) Beijing based on a design by Zhang Bo .
The building was erected in the style of “ socialist classicism ” on the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China according to a design by the architect Zhang Bo (张 镈; Zhāng Bó) and serves a. a. as a museum (50,000 exhibits, permanent exhibition on the material culture of the ethnic minorities of China ), library (600,000 volumes), theater and hotel .
It has a construction area of 32,000 square meters. The main building has 13 floors and is 67 meters high. The facade of the building is white and the building has a traditional-looking roof with blue glazed tiles.
The entrance is adorned with the Chinese words “团結” ( tuánjié ; “solidarity”) and “进步” ( jìnbù ; “progress”).
