Kumar Bhattacharyya, Baron Bhattacharyya
Sushantha Kumar Bhattacharyya, Baron Bhattacharyya (born June 6, 1940 in Dhaka ; † March 1, 2019 ) was a Bengali- British engineer, university professor and government advisor .
life and career
In 1980 Bhattacharyya took up a professorship in production engineering at the University of Warwick . There he founded the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) in the same year, which over the years was to have a considerable influence on the development of industry in Great Britain.
For his achievements in the industry, Bhattacharyya was named a life peer as Baron Bhattacharyya, of Moseley in the County of West Midlands on June 3, 2004 , after he had already been raised to the nobility in 2003 as a Knight Bachelor . He has since sat in the House of Lords for the Labor Party .
In 2005 Bhattacharyya was awarded the Duncan Davies Medal. In 2014 he was elected to the Royal Society . In 2016, twelve new Regius professorships were created on the occasion of Queen Elisabeth II's 90th birthday . One of the chairs upgraded to Regius Professorship was the WMG, so that Bhattacharyya became the first Regius Professor of Manufacturing .
In 2002 a biography of Bhattacharyya was published by Random Books.
