occupation

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is an American comedy from 2002. Steve Oedekerk is the author, producer and leading actor of this film and also speaks almost all of the dubbing voices in the original English. For this film, Oedekerk used the Hong Kong / martial arts film Tiger and Crane Fist from 1977 and created a film with a new plot from it. Scenes from the old film were re-cut and the main actor in the old film, Jimmy Wang Yu, was replaced by Steve Oedekerk with the help of blue screen techniques and digital post-processing. In the same way, What's Up Tiger Lily? originated, which Woody Allen has already re- edited in 1966 from the Japanese film Kagi No Kagi . At that time, due to a lack of technical means, the director could not get involved in the film via blue screen; this was done by means of re-shot scenes.

The film did not come into German cinemas. In Germany, however, he became known via the Internet and in 2004 the DVD of the film was released in German.

In the credits of the film a trailer for a possible sequel to Kung Pow can be seen ( Kung Pow 2: Tongue of Fury ). This fueled speculation that the sequel would appear soon, for which, however, there are no further indications.

action

Steve Oedekerk plays The Chosen One . He is branded with the mark of the chosen one: his tongue has a life of its own, has its own face, including a small tongue. From time to time she lets out shrill cries and is the chosen tip ( Tonguey called).

When the chosen one was still a baby, the mysterious Evil Council sent Master Pain to murder his family and him. But Master Pain fails in the attempt to kill the chosen one, because he already has amazing martial arts as a baby and knows how to defend himself.

Many years later, the chosen one decides to find the murderer of his parents in order to get revenge. To this end, he completed a training course at Master Tang's school. Here he met the beautiful Ling and learned more about the mysterious Council of Evil.

Highlights

One of the most famous scenes in the film is the fight between Master Pain's Chosen One and the Cow. This scene can often be found on the Internet as a video sequence, but mostly without reference to the source. The cow is a 3D animated character and was animated by Jeff Lew, who already worked on visual effects for the film Matrix (there are references to it in the scene in question).

Ling's dialogues, which in places take on strongly Dadaist traits, also met with a great response from the audience . Steve Oedekerk said in an interview that those lines originally only served as placeholders, but that the rest of the crew was ultimately able to convince the director not to write any new dialogues and to use the placeholders in the final cut.

DVD

The German DVD contains the English original as sound tracks and a dubbed German version (both in 5.1 Dolby Digital ) as well as both languages as subtitles.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films judged that the film was a "[middle] splendid Eastern satirical in trash manner" . The production is "a series of not always successful gags, which at best keep die-hard fans of the genre engaged"
