Kunst -stoffe is a non-profit association based in Berlin , which was founded in 2006 in Pankow . The association bears the name Kunst -stoffe - Central Office for Reusable Materials .

The aim of the association is to collect the supposed Berlin garbage at one point so that it can be passed on to interested parties. The German Nature Conservation Association gave the following positive assessment: “The creative reuse of discarded products contributes to avoiding waste and relieving the burden on the environment. [...] The focus of the work of Kunst -offe is the artistic, aesthetic, environmental and sociological concern with re-use and re-use strategies. "

The association collects what hardware stores, craft firms and businesses make available. Cardboard tubes, paint buckets, wood waste, tiles, stones, buttons, monitors, decorative material and packaging material make up a large proportion. Companies that want to hand over materials can arrange the delivery with the association. Chemically or environmentally polluted materials and complete products, e.g. furniture, are not collected; furniture exchanges have been set up for the latter.

target group

The target group of the institution are artists, educational institutions or do-it-yourselfers. They can use the materials for a small price.

Founding history

The idea comes from the USA (New York: Materials for the Arts ). Since the 1970s there have been ReUse centers (in German: "Centers for Reuse") in other cities in the USA and the United Kingdom , "in which reusable materials are collected, sorted and [...] made available." -Stoffe was founded in 2006 as the first recycling center in Germany .

Kunst -stoffe initially used 16 garages at Berliner Straße 17 in Berlin-Pankow as storage rooms. At the beginning of 2011, the project moved to the front building, directly on Berliner Strasse.

Projects

  • In addition to the material store, Kunst -stoffe offers a large repertoire of creative workshops [...] open workshops that can be rented and in which you can do your handicrafts - from wood to metal processing - on site, with the help of a specialist if you wish .
  • In 2012 Kunst -stoffe initiated the mobile workshop project . It is part of the Berlin cargo bike network. Awards

  • In 2011 Kunst -stoffe received the Pankow environmental award with the topic of careful use of resources, multiple use, recycling .
  • In 2011, 2012 and 2013, the Werkstatt-N project from Kunst -stoffe received the seal of quality from the Council for Sustainable Development.
  • 2013 The Berlin cargo bike network is the winner of the competition to promote local education and competence networks for sustainability by the Council for Sustainable Development.
  • The end of 2013, the Repair Café was awarded the Berlin Environmental Award of the Federal in the category Environmental Commitment Award.
  • 2013/2014: The association won the nationwide innovation competition Excellent Places in the Land of Ideas 2013/2014 .
