Art project Salzburg
The Art Project Salzburg is a series of art projects by well-known artists in the public space of the city of Salzburg . These objects were created between 2002 and 2011.
General
Every year between 2002 and 2011, the Salzburg Foundation invited one or, in 2011, three internationally renowned artists to pay a visit to Salzburg, to deal intensively with it and to leave a work of art in public space. The foundation is concerned with expanding the cultural tradition of Salzburg through contemporary art and presenting forms of modern art to the public.
The artists are selected by an international, independent team of experts under the artistic direction of Walter Smerling , Chairman of the Foundation for Art and Culture eV and Director of the "Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art" in Duisburg .
The works of art will be handed over to the municipality , but have been financed entirely from private funds. According to the mayor of Salzburg, Heinz Schaden , there is an agreement ... for a long time ... according to which the municipality pays between 20,000 and 30,000 euros a year for guarding the art objects and repairs. In 2010 it was specifically 25,000 euros. The project is supported by the Salzburg Foundation together with the Foundation for Art and Culture eV Bonn. The properties have been owned by the Würth Group since 2011.
