The Kuragaty ( Kazakh Қорағаты, Құрағаты ; Russian Курагаты, Курагата ) is a left tributary of the Chu River area Zhambyl in Kazakhstan .

The Kuragaty arises north of the Kyrgyz Mountains through the confluence of several source rivers near the small town of Lugowoi . It flows first in a northeastern, later in a northerly direction through the edge of the Mujunkum desert . The Kuragaty flows west past the town of Schu and flows into the Tschüi after 184 km on the left.

The catchment area covers 8760 km². The Kuragaty loses a significant part of its water through seepage, evaporation and discharge for irrigation purposes . 78 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 2.36 m³ / s.
