Kurhausstrasse (Bad Kissingen)
The Kurhausstraße is located in Bad Kissingen , the district town of the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen and is home to several monuments of the town .
history
Kurhausstraße was laid out as an arterial road from the former lower gate of the city to Würzburg . The name of the street comes from the nearby Kurhausbad , which was built by Balthasar Neumann in today's Prinzregentenstraße 6 .
Under the Nazi government, Kurhausstrasse was renamed Adolf-Hitler-Strasse. After the end of the war, this name was changed to Theodore-Roosevelt-Strasse by the military government under the "head of the military government" Captain Merle A. Potter. Local history researcher Edi Hahn dates the renaming of the street to Theodore-Roosevelt-Straße on April 9, 1945. According to culture advisor Peter Weidisch, Captain Merle A. Potter took power in Bad Kissingen on April 7, 1945; Weidisch cites the constituent meeting of July 7, 1945 as the date for the withdrawal of the name after Adolf Hitler. As Edi Hahn further explains, Roosevelt-Strasse was renamed Kurhausstrasse again in 1959, as the " Steigenberger Kurhaushotel " located here after one Renovation could be reopened.
During the Nazi era, Sally Mayer and his wife Irma Mayer (residents of Kurhausstrasse 12) were first deported to Theresienstadt and later to Auschwitz. Felix Gutmann and his wife Erna Gutmann, née. Haas (resident of Kurhausstrasse 37) to the Izbica ghetto or the Krasnystaw ghetto . Other victims of the Nazi regime lived at Kurhausstrasse 10 .
Since the northern section was converted into a pedestrian zone around 1975, it has been renamed "Am Kurgarten". At the beginning of the 1990s, the pedestrian zone was expanded into today's Kurhausstrasse.
