Distance column Altenberg

The listed historic Saxon distance column Altenberg is one of the post mile columns that were built in the first half of the 18th century in the Electorate of Saxony by order of the Saxon Elector Friedrich August I by the Land and Border Commissioner Adam Friedrich Zürner . It is located on Bergmanns Platz directly on federal highway 170 in the Eastern Ore Mountains town of Altenberg in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district .

history

The column was improperly restored around 1900. The old distance information was destroyed and replaced by the inscription Stadt Altenberg in 1722 . The column was destroyed in the Soviet bombing raid after the end of the war on May 10, 1945, erected again in 1955 and restored in 1959. In 1984 the Altenberg City Council decided to completely renew the column. The historical inscriptions were also reconstructed by the Saxon Post-Mile Research Group. In 1987 the copy of the column was set up on the original pedestal, which was made by the Leumer company in Hänichen . The old coat of arms can be found in the Zinnwashine Altenberg mining museum .

A restored royal Saxon milestone ( station stone ) from 1861 stands near this post mile column .

construction

The distance column consists of seven parts. The base, pedestal and the crown of the pedestal form the substructure. The superstructure consists of an intermediate plate, shaft, coat of arms and tip.
