Kurt Goerttler

Kurt Goerttler (born May 17, 1898 in Sondershausen ; † April 16, 1983 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German anatomist and university professor.

Life

Kurt Goerttler was the son of the surveyor Paul Goerttler (1864–1929) and his wife Nikoline, née Grilck (1871–1964). His older brother was the veterinarian Victor Goerttler (1897-1982). From 1915 to 1918 he took part in the First World War. After the war he joined the Epp Freikorps . From 1919 he completed a medical degree at the universities of Marburg, Würzburg, Freiburg im Breisgau and Hamburg, which he graduated with a state examination in 1922. He was awarded a Dr. med. PhD and approved . He then worked as an assistant at the anatomical institutes of the Universities of Würzburg and Munich. He completed his habilitation in Munich in 1926. In 1932 he became an adjunct professor at the University of Kiel , where he had been the second prosector since 1927. In October 1932 he went to the University of Zurich , where he became the first prosector and full professor. He became a member of the NSDAP in 1933 . In mid-March 1934 he was appointed full professor at the University of Hamburg and moved to the University of Heidelberg in November 1935 , where he was also director of the anatomical institute. In the 1930s he turned down offers at the universities of Bern, Zurich and Hamburg. Shortly before the start of the Second World War , he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and served as a medical officer until September.

After the end of the war, Goerttler was suspended from university service in Heidelberg by the American military administration. In May 1947 he was denazified as a follower after a trial chamber procedure . In 1948 he accepted the call to the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . At the latter he was also dean in 1950/51, 1956/57 and 1957/58 . Goerttler was elected a member of the Leopoldina in 1964 . Since 1937 he was a corresponding and since 1965 a full member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences . He retired in 1965 . He was the author of numerous publications in the field of anatomy.
