Kurt Grahl (* 1947 in Markneukirchen ) is a German church musician and composer .

Live and act

In 1962 Kurt Grahl entered the children's class at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . From 1964 to 1969 he studied church music. In 1968 he took part on III. International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition and won a prize in the subject of "Free Improvisation".

In 1969 Kurt Grahl succeeded his teacher Georg Trexler as cantor , organist and choirmaster in the Catholic parish of St. Trinitatis in Leipzig. From then on he headed a. a. the provost choir and the children's choir. In 1980 he was appointed - at the time the youngest - church music director . After 40 years of service, he retired in October 2012.

As the "fruit" of the service as a church musician in a parish, well over 1000 compositions have been created so far: children's songs , new sacred songs , cantatas for different choirs and ensembles, choral works , solo concerts , sacred instrumental music . Almost all of these works are the result of daily dealing with the liturgy and thus for it. Many of his works have been published by Verlag Dohr and Strube-Verlag .

In the course of the introduction of the new prayer and hymn book Gotteslob in the German-speaking dioceses at the end of 2013 and beginning of 2014, the Herder publishing house approached Kurt Grahl and commissioned him to write a workbook on the liturgical use of the book. This workbook, SCHOTT song suggestions from God's praise , ISBN 978-3-451-31272-4 , has been available since mid-2014. It contains hymn suggestions for the Sundays of the church year of all three reading years, for gentlemen's and saints' festivals and special occasions.

His son-in-law Jochen Kaiser is also a church musician and holds a doctorate in liturgy .
