Kurt Hartung (born May 21, 1947 ) is a former German football player who was active in Dresden and Löbau between 1967 and 1983 in the GDR league , the second highest division in GDR football .

Athletic career

After Kurt Hartung last played for the company sports club (BSG) Stahl Freital in the third-class district league Dresden , he moved to the GDR league club FSV Lokomotive Dresden for the 1967/68 season . In his first GDR league season, Hartung played 17 of the 30 point games in which he was mainly used as a defender. In 1968/69 he was used in all 30 league games, in which he first played in midfield, but later again in defense. That season he also scored his first league goal for the football sports association (FSpVgg).

After he only participated in 16 league games in 1969/70 and had completed ten games in the GDR league at the beginning of the 1970/71 season, Hartung was drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months in November 1970 . During this time, however, he was able to continue playing football with the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Löbau . First he did this in the Dresden district league, but in 1971 he became district champion with the team and rose again to the GDR league, which had now been expanded to five seasons. There he was used for Löbau until May 1972 in only eight of 20 league games without scoring goals.

For the 1972/73 season Kurt Hartung returned to the GDR league club FSV Lok Dresden. He was used 18 times in the 22 league games and was back in defense as before. Surprisingly, coach Harry Arlt put Hartung, who had always played defensively, in the storm in 1973/74. Hartung recognized the trust as the team's top scorer with eight league goals, even though he had only played 18 of the 22 games. In the season 1974/75 the FSpVgg was initially looked after by the coaching duo Arlt / Hebestreit. Hartung started again as a defender, but was successful in this position with three league goals. From the 17th matchday on, Klaus Hebestreit took over the training alone and ordered Hartung back into the storm. This managed to increase his goal account to nine goals by the end of the season, which brought him back the top scorer in Dresden. In the 1975/76 season Hartung played mostly in midfield and was not among the goalscorers for the first time after two seasons. From the 1976/77 season onwards, Hartung had found his permanent place in the defense as a stopper for the FSpVgg locomotive. He was also among the scorers again (1976/77 two goals, 1977/78 four goals). 1978 his team was league relay winner and took part in the promotion round to the league . Hartung played six of the eight games, but as the last of the six teams involved, the Dresden team clearly missed promotion. Impaired by a protracted injury, Hartung could only start the 1978/79 season on the 10th day of the game and ended up only making 13 league appearances. As a result, he had to give up the office of team captain, for which he was scheduled at the beginning of the season. The new coach Frank Ganzera mainly used Hartung as a midfielder, which he used to point out his scoring danger again with six league goals. In 1979/80 the FSpVgg Lok went through difficult times, was in a relegation zone for a long time and only saved itself from relegation at the end of the season. However, Hartung was back to his old strength, used as a defender, he was only missing in two point games and was again among the goalscorers with three hits.

At the age of 33, Hartung went into his last regular season. In 1980/81 he played only twelve of the 22 GDR league games, in which he was again used in defense by the new player-coach Claus Lichtenberger . Hartung scored the last league goal of his career on matchday 20 in the match between FSV and Motor Werdau , when he scored 3-0 in a 4-0 win for Dresden. At the beginning of the 1981/82 season, the FSpVgg announced that Kurt Hartung had finished his football career. In fact, Hartung finally said goodbye to competitive football when, after a long break in the series of the 1982/83 season, he helped out again with three point matches in the GDR league team of FSpVgg. After the final end of his career, Hartung was able to look back on 246 league games with 36 goals and six league promotion games after 15 GDR league seasons.

From 1988 to 1990 Hartung looked after the 1st team of the FSpVgg Lok as a coach in the district league, later the 2nd team of the successor club Dresdner SC . Until 2013 he was still active in the DSC's 60+ traditional team.
