Frank Ganzera
Frank Ganzera (born September 8, 1947 in Dresden ) was a football player in the GDR upper league and was on the GDR national football team thirteen times .
GDR league player
The 1.86 m tall Frank Ganzera, a toolmaker by trade , came to local rivals SG Dynamo Dresden at the beginning of the 1966/67 season at the age of 19 from the second division club FSV Lokomotive Dresden . Dynamo had few successful years behind them and only two years earlier had been promoted back to the GDR league after a year in second division . In the past 1965/66 season , rank 5 was the best result of the past eleven years.
Ganzera was planned to strengthen the Dresden line of defense. However, it turned out that it was not the defense, but the attack that was the problem child of the Dynamos, because with the lowest hit rate of all league teams - 25 goals in 26 games - but almost as many goals as in 1966 and 1967 (33), Ganzera's team had to relegate again in 1968 . Ganzera had played his first league game for Dynamo on November 19, 1966, the 12th matchday, in the game at Wismut Gera (0: 3) as a left defender.
With the immediate resurgence and the sensational 3rd place in the 1969/70 season as a newcomer, Dynamo Dresden ushered in its successful era, which lasted until the end of GDR football. Frank Ganzera played a part in this until 1976. He played all games - including one with his younger brother Hubert Ganzera - in the successful 1970/71 season , when Dresden won the double with the championship and cup for the first time in GDR football history, and he was also at the 1973 championships (24 games ) and 1976 (1 game) involved.
In 1972 , 1974 and 1975 he was again in the cup final, but without being able to repeat the success of 1971. When he ended his career at Dynamo Dresden after the 1975/76 season, he was able to look back on a record of 133 league games. As a defender or defensive midfielder, he scored eight goals.
His official farewell took place on December 11, 1976 before the league game Dynamo Dresden - 1. FC Magdeburg. Then Ganzera returned to his former team FSV Lok Dresden, where he was still active as a player from 1976 to 1978 and then coached the team until 1980.
Selection player
Even as a player for Lok Dresden, Ganzera was used both in the GDR junior team (3 games) and in the youth team (7 games). He played his first international full on December 8, 1969 in Baghdad against Iraq (1-1), where he was called up as a central defender. In the following 27 internationals of the GDR national team he was used twelve times, his last international match took place on May 27, 1973 in Bucharest, where Ganzera suffered a 0-1 defeat as a right defender. After the Romanian goal he was substituted for the Magdeburg Pommerenke. In 1971 and 1972 Frank Ganzera was also part of the GDR's Olympic team . There he played six games and was on November 10, 1972 as a right defender in the small final against the Soviet Union. After a 2-2 win after extra time, both teams received the bronze medal according to the regulations.
