Kurt Hovelijnck (born June 2, 1981 in Eeklo ) is a former Belgian cyclist .
Kurt Hovelijnck began his career in 2004 with the Belgian cycling team Jong Vlaanderen in 2016 and rode for the Professional Continental Team Chocolade Jacques from 2005 to 2008 . In his second season there he was second at the Grand Prix Wanzele and third in the first section of the Circuit de Lorraine . He also made it into the top ten of a stage twice in the Algarve Tour and the Tour de l'Avenir .
In 2009, Hovelijnck switched to ProTeam Quick Step . On March 17, 2009, he had a serious fall during a training ride with Wouter Weylandt after the rear wheel of his bike came loose and he rolled over. He fractured the base of his skull . He was in a coma for three weeks and then suffered from depression, and it was eleven months before he could race again.
For the 2011 season, Hovelijnck moved to the Donckers Koffie-Jelly Belly team . After Weylandt died on May 9, 2011 of the consequences of a skull base fracture and he also had to mourn the deaths of his friends and colleagues Frederiek Nolf and Dimitri De Fauw , Hovelijnck planned to end his career immediately. Shortly afterwards, however, he rejected this plan again. However, after no new sponsor for his then Crelan-Euphony team was found for the 2014 season and the team was dissolved, he announced the end of his career.
