Kurt Kreiser

Emil Kurt Kreiser (born June 4, 1891 in Dresden ; † February 13, 1945 during the air raids on Dresden) was a German music journalist, conductor and composer .

Life

Kurt Kreiser attended the Dreikönigschule grammar school in Dresden and graduated from high school in 1910. He then began studying chemistry at the University of Dresden, but was dissatisfied with the choice of course and switched to philosophy, literature and art history. In 1915 Kurt Kreiser changed his course again, decided on musicology and went to the University of Leipzig. There he studied under Hugo Riemann , Arthur Prüfer and Arnold Schering . He received his doctorate with a doctoral thesis on the life and work of the Dresden composer Carl Gottlieb Reissiger . Kurt Kreiser then moved back to Dresden, worked as a music journalist, music teacher at the König-Georg-Gymnasium , conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic and as a composer. Kurt Kreiser died on February 13, 1945 during the Allied air raids on Dresden.
