Kurt Lechner

Kurt Georg Lechner (born October 26, 1942 in Kaiserslautern ) was a member of the CDU for Rhineland-Palatinate in the European People's Party from 1999 to 2012 .

Life

Kurt Lechner graduated from high school in Kaiserslautern in 1961. In 1961/62 he did his military service with the mountain and paratroopers and was then first lieutenant in the reserve . From 1962 to 1967 he studied law, political science and economics in Munich and Mainz . During his studies he passed his first and in 1970 his second state examination in law. From 1970 to 1973 he worked as a notary assessor in Landau and Kaiserslautern and from 1973 to 1999 as a notary in Kaiserslautern.

Kurt Lechner has been a member of the CDU since 1964 and was state chairman of the Junge Union in Rhineland-Palatinate from 1971 to 1977 and a member of the state board of the CDU-Rhineland-Palatinate. He was chairman of the CDU district association Kaiserslautern-Stadt and from 1993 to 2011 district chairman of the CDU Rheinhessen-Pfalz. From 1993 to 2005 he was a member of the CDU state executive.

From 1976 to 1979 he was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate. Kurt Lechner has been a member of the European Parliament since 1999. He belongs to the Group of the European People's Party . For his group he is a member of the Committee on the Internal Market and a member of the Legal Affairs Committee and Consumer Protection. He is also a member of the delegation for relations with the Mashrek countries.

On March 17, 2012, Lechner resigned from the European Parliament; The successor is the Lord Mayor of Bingen am Rhein, Birgit Collin-Langen .

Lechner has been the chairman of the Friends of the University of Kaiserslautern eV since 1993. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fridtjof Nansen Academy for Civic Education in the Ingelheim Training Center .
