Kurt Schnell

Kurt Schnell (born March 10, 1914 in Berlin ; † October 20, 1971 ) was a foreign trade official in the GDR .

Life

Schnell did military service in World War II and was taken prisoner by the Soviets as a lieutenant in 1944 . After the end of the war he became a member of the SED and worked as a foreign trade official. Among other things, he was deputy head of the representation of the Chamber for Foreign Trade (KfA) of the GDR in Austria in 1959 . From 1959 to 1962 he headed the KfA representation in the Netherlands as a commercial councilor . From 1963 he was head of the Nordic countries division in the Ministry for Foreign and Inner German Trade in the GDR . From 1964 to 1965 he worked as the deputy general director of the foreign trade company "German domestic and foreign trade electrical engineering". From 1965 to 1967 he headed the KfA representation in Athens as a commercial councilor . Soon after he took office as a commercial councilor in Greece , the GDR Chamber of Commerce and the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a joint protocol which, among other things, provided for the elimination of all factors hindering trade relations. From 1967 to 1971 Schnell headed the chamber representation in Rome as legation counselor (successor to the late Herbert Merkel ).
