Kurt Steiner

Kurt Steiner (born June 10, 1912 in Vienna , † October 20, 2003 in Stanford , California ) was an Austrian-American political scientist.

Life

Steiner was in 1935 at the University of Vienna to Dr. jur. PhD . After the annexation of Austria to the Nazi Germany emigrated it in 1938 in the United States. There he studied Japanese at the US Military Intelligence School and worked for the US military administration in Tokyo after the end of the Second World War . There he was a prosecutor in the war crimes trials. He also advised on the formulation of the constitution of the state of Japan .

After returning to the USA, he studied political science at Stanford University , where he received his doctorate in 1955. He then taught comparative political science as a professor at this university . In addition, he was responsible for the faculty's Austrian studies and was very committed, which earned him the nickname Mr. Austria at the university .
