Kurt Wagener

Kurt Wagener (born October 31, 1898 in Elmshorn ; † August 21, 1976 in Hanover ) was a German veterinarian .

Life

Kurt Wagener studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover and received his license to practice medicine in 1922 . During his studies he became a member of the Association of German Students in Hanover . In 1923 he was with the work The diagnosis of blackleg at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover doctorate . After working, among other things, from 1924 to 1926 as an assistant at the State Research Institute Insel Riems, at the State Veterinary Investigation Office in Potsdam and at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Berlin , he received the Venia legendi in 1929 . In 1930/31 he was a fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation in the United States . In 1932 he became head of the State Veterinary Investigation Office in Landsberg an der Warthe , in 1935 an associate professor at the University of Berlin , in 1936 a full professor and director of the Institute for Veterinary Hygiene. In 1938 he accepted an appointment at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover, where he headed the Hygiene Institute for three decades. In 1957 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . 1963/64 he was rector of the veterinary college. In 1967 he retired.
